Jens Vinge Nygaard's Biography

Jens Vinge Nygaard, Head of Section & Associate Professor, Aarhus University

In 2002 Jens Vinge Nygaard received his Ph.D. within the area of materials science specializing in the mechanics and making of microcellular foams and composites. At the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Aarhus University, Denmark he developed porous composite biomaterials tailored to guide stem cells using biomechanical stimuli and delivery of siRNA1-2. He applies computational biomechanics to understand biological performance not only in the development of new biomaterials, but also to determine disease progression. He considered risk assessment of patients that might realize a stroke by using a time efficient mathematical algorithm to establish biomechanical models of patient specific arteries with atheromatous plaques, and correlated mechanical stresses to disease progression3. During 2012 - 2016 he acted as Head of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Currently he is active in the formation of an interdisciplinary Health Technology Program at Aarhus University and University Hospital, www.eng.au.dk/healthtechnology.
