Malini A Venkata, Lead Investigator, Biocon Bristol Myers Squibb

Dr Malini A Venkata is currently Working as a Lead Investigator at Biocon Bristol Myers Squibb Research Centre, an R&D facility of Bristol-Myers Squibb, USA, in collaboration with Syngene, a division of Biocon, India, from April 1st 2011 till date. She has twelve plus years of post MD experience in Pathology. Dr Malini works as the Immunohistochemistry Lead in the Clinical Biomarker group of ECTR (Exploratory Clinical and Translational Research). Her team plays an active part in identifying potential areas for development of new clinical biomarkers with special interest in oncology, and their subsequent standardization and validation. Dr Malini’s role is in independently developing, implementing, validating, reporting and documenting protocols for immunohistochemistry markers with regular interactions with the Clinical Biomarker groups at BMS and cross- functional teams at BBRC and overseeing the functioning of the IHC lab. She is also involved in setting up of a Digital Pathology platform at the facility. She plays an important role in various Hospital Outreach programs of BMS, where she interacts with clinical teams, help draft proposals, drive sample acquisition, oversee the logistics and operations while actively involving in sample analysis. With rich experience in oncopathology and IHC, her group in collaboration with local tertiary care centers in Bangalore is keen on focusing on immuno-oncology. She is also a member of the Biosafety Committee, participates actively in “Women in Science” (WIS) forums and represented BBRC at the Syngene WIS initiative. Prior to BBMS, Dr Malini worked as Consultant Pathologist and Blood Bank Officer at Triesta Reference Laboratory, HealthCare Global (HCG), and Bangalore Institute of Oncology (BIO) Blood Bank from Dec 2005 to March 16th 2011. She also worked as Registrar in Histopathology, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai (June 2004 to Sept 2005). She was a Senior Resident in Transfusion Medicine, Dept. of Neuropathology. NIMHANS, Bangalore (Dec 2003 to May 2004). Her major areas of interests are Oncopathology, Histotechniques, Digital Pathology.
