Thomas Ritter's Biography

Thomas Ritter, Senior Lecturer, National University of Ireland

Dr Thomas Ritter is a REMEDI principal investigator and member of the REMEDI Immunology Group. He is a leading researcher in the field of transplant immunology applied to corneal and other tissue transplants and stem cell therapies. He developed his expertise at Charité University in Berlin, Germany and the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy, France before joining the NUIG faculty in 2006. His laboratory has established rat models of corneal transplantation and a range of techniques for characterizing local and systemic immune in these models. He has obtaining substantial funding from several agencies including Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI), Health Research Board (HRB) and The Irish Research Council (IRC) totalling over €6M. He has published 76 original articles in peer-reviewed journals, 18 reviews, 1 editorial and 2 book chapters. He has given more than 30 invited lectures, seminars and oral presentations. Ritter is on the Editorial Board of Transplantation and serves as a referee for Biomaterials, Gene Therapy, Invest. Ophthal. Vis. Sci. (IOVS), Transplantation and many others. He is also a grant assessor for the German Research Foundation (DFG), Wellcome Trust and Action Medical Research (UK).
