Jason Webber's Biography

Jason Webber, Research Fellow, Cardiff University

Dr. Jason Webber is a Prostate Cancer UK Research Fellow, and Principal Investigator, within the Exosome Biology Research Group (lead by Dr. Aled Clayton) at Cardiff University. Jason completed his PhD studies, exploring regulatory mechanisms of fibroblast differentiation within the context of renal fibrosis, in 2008. Following this he then switched fields to study the role of exosomes in cancer, and demonstrated that exosomes can trigger the differentiation of stromal cells within the tumour microenvironment and subsequently facilitate tumour growth. In 2014 Jason was awarded a Career Development Fellowship from Prostate Cancer UK to further investigate the role of exosomes within prostate cancer and to explore the use of exosomes as a means to distinguish patients with aggressive disease.

With an emphasis on prostate cancer, I aim to convince the audience that exosomal (not soluble) TGFß, is the key modulator of tumour stroma driving multiple changes that support disease progression.
