Darren Riley's Biography



Darren Riley, Senior Lecturer, University of Pretoria

Dr. Riley studied chemistry at the University of the Witwatersrand. In 2010, he was appointed full time as a principle scientist at iThemba Pharmaceuticals a drug discovery institute targeting neglected and African diseases. He subsequently moved to the University of Pretoria in 2013 establishing a research group with a focus on both drug discovery linked to Alzheimer’s disease as well as the development of process routes to pharmaceuticals utilizing flow chemistry. Dr Riley is currently working on several industry linked collaborations linked to the use of flow technology as an enabling technology for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

This talk will highlight efforts to develop robust syntheses of critical pharmaceuticals and will highlight efforts to use flow chemistry as an enabling technology to improve existing “batch” based process routes.
