B K Binukumar,
Senior Scientist,
CSIR-IGIB
Dr. Binukumar B.K is a Senior Scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology, New Delhi, India. He has received post-doctoral training in the field of neurology and therapeutics at National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), NIH, Maryland USA. He is interested in understanding mechanisms of neurodegeneration to develop strategies to delay or prevent the death of neurons in degenerating brain and spinal cord, particularly in Parkinson's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. Deregulation of protein kinase activity has been implicated in various diseases, ranging from vascular disorders, inflammatory diseases and neurological disorders. This has generated intense interest in the pursuit of protein kinases as drug targets. He is a recipient of the Prof. R. Nath Gold Medal” (2011) award from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Young Scientist award from Society for Neurochemistry, (2009), India.
