Jenna Bowen's Biography

Jenna Bowen, Co-Founder, Cotton Mouton Diagnostics Ltd.

Dr Jenna Bowen is a lecturer at the Cardiff University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and co-founder of Cotton Mouton Diagnostics Ltd. Jenna’s research interests lie in the development of novel sensing systems to enable rapid, evidence-based diagnosis of disease, particularly those of infectious origin. Recognising the need to work across disciplines in order to deliver fit-for-purpose technologies, Jenna has established collaborations across engineering, physical and life science disciplines as well as with end-users from the clinical, commercial and third sector, to support translational research projects. CMD was formed in late 2014 to commercially exploit a novel magneto-optical sensing platform that had been developed collaboratively between Exeter and Cardiff Universities.

First developed as an in-field diagnostic for malaria, CMD’s innovative magneto-optical technology has been transformed into a generic sensing platform capable of detecting a variety of markers. Reduced to a small footprint and capable of providing results within minutes, the CMD system is ideally suited to point-of-need applications across the healthcare sector and beyond.
