Marieke Broekman's Biography

Marieke Broekman, Neurosurgeon, University Medical Center Utrecht and Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School

Marike Broekman MD PhD JD, is a neurosurgeon with a dedicated interest in oncology in the Department of Neurosurgery at University Medical Center Utrecht and a visiting scholar at the Department of Neurology of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Her laboratory focuses on the development of innovative treatments and techniques for diagnosis of brain tumors. Specifically, Dr. Broekman is interested in extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their role in and use for brain tumors. The lab has developed and studied various methods for the characterization of EVs and is working on implementing these for brain tumor diagnosis. The team has a great interest in deciphering the role of brain tumor derived EVs in the tumor microenvironment, specifically the immune system, and works on characterization of their role both in vitro and in vivo.
