Shilpa Verekar, Head – Technical Projects (Microbiology), Microchem Silliker Pvt Ltd

Dr Shilpa Verekar has completed her PhD from Jiwaji University, India. She is an Industrial Microbiologist with 14 years of experience as “Senior Research Scientist” at Research Centre of Piramal Enterprises Limited. She was actively engaged in the discovery of novel bioactive molecules like PM181110 particularly from fungi in the areas of anti-cancer and anti-infective diseases. She was actively involved in establishing the microbial culture collection (>50,000) and microbial extract library (>90, 000) with Piramal Enterprises Limited. She has 28 publications in national and international journals, 8 book chapters and 1 patent to her credit. She was awarded the “Woman Scientist Award at International Conference on "Mycology and Plant Pathology Biotechnological Approaches" at Banaras Hindu University in 2012. She was an Assistant Professor in Department of Microbiology at St. Xavier’s Autonomous College,
Mumbai for 2 years. She is on the board of Internal Quality Assurance Cell at G.M. Momin’s Women’s College, Bhiwandi. Currently she is working as Head – Technical Projects (Microbiology), PAN India with Microchem Silliker Pvt Ltd, Mumbai.
