Silvia Scaglione, Professor, National Council of Research (CNR), Genoa (Italy) and Head of Laboratory of Tissue Engineering

Silvia Scaglione, bioengineer, is permanent Researcher at National council of Research (CNR) in Genoa (Italy) and head of the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering, currently consisting of 3 post Doc, 2 master students, 1 technician and 1 senior research associate.

She is also owner and founder of React4life s.r.l., an innovative biotech startup, that has won several awards, such as BioInItaly, Novartis awards as “best technology for oncology”, UnicreditStartLab, H2020 SME Instrument Phase 1. She is author of more than 60 international peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, author of 7 patents. She is responsible of some national and international research projects, and coordinator of a Future Emerging Technology (FET-OPEN) H2020 project, pillar excellent science, entitled “Modeling spontaneous Breast cancer metastasis TO the Bone with a first-of-its-kind 3D device that recapitulates physiological tissue-level complexity -B2B”.

A 3D cell-laden alginate hydrogels was designed as in vitro neuroblastoma model. The system revealed a clinical-relevant constitutive and IFN-gamma inducible NB immunophenotype suggesting its potential as future platform for set up and validate immune based therapeutic approaches.
