Taru Muranen's Biography



Taru Muranen, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School

Dr. Muranen’s lab focuses on studying how tumor stroma, and more specifically extracellular matrix proteins contribute to tumor growth and drug resistance in breast and pancreatic cancers. Dr. Muranen got her PhD in the University of Helsinki, Finland, completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School with Dr. Joan Brugge, and started her own laboratory in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in late 2016.

We have been developing novel co-culture models of primary patient-derived tumor organoids with matching primary cancer-associated fibroblasts to investigate tumor-stroma crosstalk in hormone receptor positive breast cancer.
