Shuji Ogino, Associate Professor, Dana Farber Cancer Institute

Shuji Ogino, MD, PhD, MS(Epidemiology) is Associate Professor of Pathology (since 2008) at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Ogino is a pioneer of the interdisciplinary field of “Molecular Pathological Epidemiology (MPE)” (J Natl Cancer Inst 2010; Gut 2011; Nat Rev Clin Oncol 2011) and a recipient of the prestigious Ramzi Cotran Young Investigator Award in 2011 from USCAP. Dr. Ogino's laboratory is currently funded by six R01 grants, two P01 (Program Project) grants, P50 SPORE grant, Bennett Family Fund, and National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance, to study MPE and epigenetics of gastrointestinal neoplasia.

Cancers are complex multifactorial diseases caused by interactions of genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors. Molecular pathological epidemiology (MPE) is an integrated interdisciplinary field of science, to dissect etiologies and epigenetic mechanisms of carcinogenesis and contribute to personalized medicine.
