Viral Patel's Biography



Viral Patel, Scientist, Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research

Mr Patel currently works at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research at the Horsham, UK campus. Being a self taught enzymologist, his group over see’s current enzymology projects within the respiratory disease area and is responsible for providing detailed biochemical support to program teams such as assay development, high-throughput screening, hit triage, and detailed pharmacological characterization of hit-to-lead and lead-optimization of compounds.

Prior to moving to industry he spent a number of years in academia, working within the pharmacology department at Leicester University, where his proposed work provided the first accounts by which ATP and ADP regulate endothelial function.

A common bottle neck incurred when profiling inhibitors is the laborious pipetting stages that are normally associated in carrying out such experiments. This presentation describes how the utilization of nanolitre dispensing has provided a solution in speeding up the process of profiling these inhibitors.
