Giancarlo Cravotto's Biography

Giancarlo Cravotto, Professor, University of Torino

Giancarlo Cravotto is currently Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Torino and Director of the Department of Drug Science and Technology. He is the European Editor of Ultrasonics Sonochemistry (Elsevier). His research activity is documented by about 200 scientific peer-reviewed papers, several book chapters and patents. His main research interests are the synthesis of fine chemicals and bioactive compounds. These studies have paved the road to green synthetic procedures, particularly in the fields of ultrasound- and microwave-assisted reactions and prompted the development of innovative chemical reactors. These non-conventional techniques and equipments (lab and pilot scale) have been applied in organic synthesis, in the degradation of persistent organic pollutants and plants extraction, in collaboration with several industrial partners.
