Darren Cawkill's Biography



Darren Cawkill, Associate Director, Pfizer

Dr Darren Cawkill has been at Neusentis (Pfizer’s Pain & Sensory Disorders research unit) in Cambridge
UK for 4 years and with Pfizer for a total of 16 years. On completing his PhD in 1998, he joined Pfizer from the University of Leeds and has since worked in the fields of protein biochemistry, cell line generation, cell biology and in vitro pharmacology. His current role is leading the plate-based assay development and screening group at Neusentis. As an R&D hub, Neusentis focuses on new treatments for pain & sensory disorders and places a strong emphasis on the application of new scientific research and technologies to improve the biological relevance of assays used in this area of drug discovery.

This presentation will provide an overview of phenotypic assay development and validation using both ‘normal’ and patient-derived hiPSC-sensory neurons; together with a summary of ongoing chemogenomics screening initiatives aimed at new target identification for hyperexcitability disorders.
