Marzanna Gontarczyk's Biography



Marzanna Gontarczyk, , University of Zurich

Marzanna Künzli-Gontarczyk obtained her master degree in plant physiology in 1990 and her PhD degree in biology in 1998 at the Warsaw Agricultural University, Poland. From 1999 to 2004 she performed postdoctoral research at the Biotechnology Group of Prof. Wilhelm Gruissem at the Plant Science Institute ETH Zürich, Switzerland. In 2005 she joined Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) as a staff scientist where she organized and was responsible for Affymetrix Microarray Services. In June 2008 she was appointed to establish Next Generation Sequencing Services at FGCZ with GS FLX System. Currently NGS Service at the FGCZ offers sequencing services with Roche 454 GS FLX Titanium, Life Technologies 5500xl, Illumina HiSeq 2000, Ion Torrent PGM and Pacific Biosciences RS. Her area of expertise is in experimental methods including next-generation sequencing technologies and in organization and management of core lab acilities.

The Ion Torrent PGM semiconductor-based platform is the first commercially available non-optical sequencing technology. Some of the sequencing applications in genome and transcriptome analysis are presented.
