Jonathan West's Biography

Jonathan West, Research Associate, Leibniz Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften

Jonathan West obtained a degree in Medical Microbiology at the University of Edinburgh in 1997 and then moved to Tyndall National Institute in Cork for his PhD on ?TAS technologies for genetic diagnostics. This was followed by commercial R&D of deployed bioanalytical microsystems for medical and homeland security applications. In 2006 he moved to the Miniaturisation Group at ISAS, Dortmund, and now runs the Miniaturisation for the Life Sciences activity. The research involves the development of micropatterning and microfluidic platforms for cell analytics, with key activities being the reconstruction of neurobiology models and the investigation of cell signaling dynamics.

The presentation will describe the development of a 2-step deterministic lateral displacement microfluidic system for stimulating and recording cell surface events with millisecond resolution. The system has been applied to the investigation of insulin-like growth factor receptor autophosphorylation transitions.
