In June 1999, Gajus Worthington and Stephen Quake, PhD, co-founded Fluidigm Corporation to commercialize a new microfluidic technology called integrated fluidic circuits (IFCs). In essence, the company was created to commercialize an integrated circuit for biology. Mr. Worthington has served as Fluidigm’s President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director since the company’s inception. Mr. Worthington successfully took the company public in September 2011 (NASDAQ:FLDM). In 2011, 2012 and 2013, Fluidigm was named to Deloitte's "Fast 500" list as one of the fastest growing companies in North America. In 2014, Mr. Worthington was instrumental in acquiring DVS Sciences a leading supplier of multi-parameter single-cell protein analysis systems. The combination of DVS Sciences’ high-parameter single-cell protein analysis platform with Fluidigm’s industry-leading single-cell genomics technology created s single-cell technology powerhouse. Fluidigm is the industry's leading tools supplier for single-cell biology. Mr. Worthington has been a global champion for the creation and supplying of tools for life science researchers that effectively unlock the promise of single-cell biology.

Single-cell biology, particularly single cell genomics and proteomics, is changing our understanding of fundamental molecular mechanisms in many areas of life science research. Yet this exciting field is nascent and much remains to be done. Join Fluidigm co-founder, president and chief executive officer Gajus Worthington as he surveys some of the latest trends and developments in single-cell biology research, including how select researchers are tackling ambitious 100,000 cell projects using Fluidigm’s existing single-cell genomics tools, and how high-dimensional single-cell proteomic data is being used to reveal cellular diversity in fields such as immunology and cancer research. The ramifications of single cell science are broad, and may usher in a new phase of discovery and understanding.
