Paul Collinson, Consultant Chemical Pathologist, St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Professor P. O Collinson MA MB BChir FRCPath MD FACB FRCP edin. EurSpClinChem FESC is Consultant Chemical Pathologist at St George’s Hospital and Professor of Cardiovascular Biomarkers at St George’s Medical School. He is responsible for the Point of Care team and provides the Vascular Risk management service for the Cardiac Department. He has published over 200 papers and review articles, over 220 abstracts and 15 book chapters. Likes SCUBA diving and photographing sharks. Especially the ones with big teeth.

The rapid measurement of the gold standard biochemical test cardiac troponin by point of care testing (POCT) was an early innovation in patients presenting with chest pain. Strategies for more rapid diagnosis and the improved sensitivity of laboratory-based systems now create the challenge for troponin measurement by POCT.
