Yacine Laabi's Biography

Yacine Laabi, Research Group Leader, Institute for Stem Cell Therapy and Exploration of Monogenic Diseases

Yacine LAABI is an expert in the field of stem cell biology with more than 20 years of experience in both academic and biotech environments. He is currently heading the Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Biotechnologies Division at I-STEM in Evry, France, where he implemented a fully integrated bioprocess for the expansion, differentiation, cryopreservation and biobanking of hESC and iPSC lines using the CompacT SelecT automated cell culture robotic platform. He received his PhD in Molecular Haematology from the University of Paris 7 in 1994 and was consequently honoured by the 1993 EUROCANCER Young Scientist Award. He subsequently spent 6 years as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the WEHI in Melbourne in the Division headed by Prof. Jerry Adams and Suzanne Cory working on haemopoietic lineage reprogramming. Back to France, he directed from 2002 to 2007 the R&D department of the AbCys S.A. biotech company in Paris where he directed a research programme aiming at mastering the differentiation of hESCs into definitive endoderm and subsequently into hepatic progenitors.
