Gregory Dame's Biography

Gregory Dame, Group Leader, University of Freiburg

Dr. Gregory Dame is a research scientist at the Department of Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg, leading a lab-on-a-chip group at the chair of sensors. He is working in several research projects and industry collaborations on the development of novel Point-of-Care systems.
The main part of his research is directed towards novel lab-on-a-chip technologies for applications in the life sciences, establishing chip-based metabolic cell analysis platforms, in particular lab-on-a-chip systems for bacterial analysis in drinking water, RNA extraction systems esp. for miRNAs and noncoding RNAs in mammalian tumor cells and novel reusable sensors for continuous monitoring of biofilms.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are highly conserved ~22 nt long regulatory RNAs and critical modulators of post-transcriptional gene regulation. Here we present the development of a fast on-chip (mi)RNA extraction system for point of care diagnostics, e.g. tumor analysis.
