Rickard Sandberg's Biography

Rickard Sandberg, Scientist/Principal Investigator/Researcher, Karolinska Institutet

Rickard received his PhD form Karolinska Institutet and pursued his postdoc with Chris Burge at MIT. In 2008 Rickard started his own lab at Karolinska Institutet and later joined the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (http://http://sandberg.cmb.ki.se/). His most important research contributions concerns post-transcriptional gene regulation (Sandberg/Neilson et al. Science 2008; Wang/Sandberg et al. Nature 2008; Shukla et al. Nature 2011). Currently, the lab is focusing on single-cell transcriptome analyses methods, including Smart-Seq (Ramsköld/Luo et al. Nature Biotech 2012), to study gene regulation of during early mouse embryo development and uncover novel principles of transcription.

In this talk I will present our current applications of Smart-Seq to mouse embryonic development. I will also stress how useful this protocol will be for addressing fundamental biological problems requiring genome-wide transcriptome profiling in individual cells.
