Robert Damoiseaux, Scientific Director, University of California Los Angeles

Dr. Robert Damoiseaux is the Scientific Director of the Molecular Shared Screening Resources at the University of California Los Angeles. The MSSR is a cutting edge facility involved in research projects with, among others, UCLA, Caltech, and the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Damoiseaux custom-designs experiments, coaches and directs the research process, leads project teams, and has facilitated novel developments in scientific technology, research on cancer and infectious diseases and chemical and functional genomics. He has written a book chapter on Molecular Screening for Wiley’s Development of Therapeutic Agents Handbook. His private research focuses on biofilm assay systems and toxicological issues of nano-materials. His expertise in high-through-put screening and the use of novel technologies brings him into demand for scientific collaborations and consulting for both academia and industry.

Here we examine how technologies such as laser scanning cytometry, plate reader based technologies and traditional high content screening can be combined to full effect for phenotypic screening for modulators of inflammation, cell cycle modulators, X-chromosome re-activators and functional genomics screen for nano-toxicology applications.
