Rudolf Allemann's Biography



Rudolf Allemann, Distinguished Research Professor, Cardiff University

Rudolf K. Allemann was born in Solothurn (Switzerland). He studied Physics and Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. He obtained his doctorate (PhD) with Prof Steven A. Benner for work at Harvard University and ETH-Zurich. After a postdoctoral stay at the MRC-National Institute for Medical Research in London, Allemann began his independent research career in the Department of Chemistry at ETH-Zurich. He obtained his Habilitation in 1999 and was Privatdozent in Chemical Biology at ETH-Zurich. In 1998, he moved to the University of Birmingham where he was the Professor of Chemical Biology. In 2005 he took up his current position of Distinguished Research Professor in Chemistry in Cardiff University’s School of Chemistry.
