Christer Ericsson, PhD, was awarded the Florman award from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for his thesis in molecular genetics from the Karolinska Institute. He went on to receive an EMBO postdoctoral scholarship for studies at the Salk Institute, San Diego, California. He was awarded an assistant professor position at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden. He has been a visiting scientist at the University of California at Irvine, and at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and chairman of the board of Liquid Biopsy.

There exists an urgent need for instruments that can provide generalized isolation of circulating tumor cells for the clinical laboratory, not limited by the existing single marker, affinity-based, technologies. We present the status of development of such an instrument.
