Logan Liu's Biography



Logan Liu, Associate Professor, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Dr. Logan Liu obtained his Ph.D. degree in bioengineering from University of California-Berkeley and UC-San Francisco. He finished his postdoctoral training in the Helen Diller comprehensive cancer center at San Francisco as well as Lawrence Livermore national lab where he was a Lawrence fellow. In 2008 he joined University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an assistant professor in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Department of Bioengineering. He is also a faculty fellow of National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). He has published over 80 journal and conference papers as well as several book chapters. His research focuses on designing and developing integrative bionano and microfluidic technologies and devices for the applications of advanced nanomanufacturing, bioimaging, cancer diagnostics and therapy, environmental sensing and mobile health.

Dr. Liu has been awarded for several major awards in the past including outstanding publication award from UC-Berkeley in 2006, ALA innovator award finalist in 2006, Lawrence fellowship in 2007, Damon Runyon-Rachleff cancer research innovation award finalist in 2010, Presidential Early-Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2011, lab-on-a-chip emerging investigator in 2012 and Vodafone wireless innovation project competition winner in 2013. His research works on colorimetric nanoplasmonic device and mobile phone water nanosensor were reported by Wired magazine, NBC, and many other major news media.
