Matthias Nees's Biography

Matthias Nees, Principal Scientist, VTT Technical Research Centre

Dr. Nees has generated advanced cell & tissue culture models since his PhD thesis at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), continued with organotypic cultures during postdoctoral work at NCI and U Heidelberg/EMBL, and now leads VTT’s Cancer Models group. In basic and contract research, also within the IMI PREDECT consortium, his goals are to generate complex, standardized and miniaturized organotypic models in vitro that mimic the heterogeneity and histology of human cancers. The main tasks include tumour/stroma interactions, remodelling of the tumour microenvironment, epithelial plasticity, cell invasion and motility. Simultaneously, these experimental platforms support high content screening and imaging methods.
