Holger Sultmann's Biography



Holger Sultmann, Head, German Cancer Research Center

Graduated in Biochemistry from Tübingen University. After completing his PhD and postdoctoral studies in Molecular Evolutionary Genetics at the Max-Planck-Institute for Biology (Tübingen), he moved to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, Heidelberg), where he is heading the working group Cancer Genome Research. His main research interest is in the application of genomic and proteomics technologies to identify, characterize, and translate novel cancer biomarkers into the clinics. He has successfully lead several interdisciplinary cancer genome research projects and is currently co-coordinating the German ICGC project on genome sequencing of prostate cancer.

Genome sequencing has provided deep insights into mutational patterns of many cancers. The presentation will focus on how to exploit this knowledge in order to understand the underlying biological processes as well as to implement genome sequencing for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and prediction.
