Joel Tellinghuisen's Biography

Joel Tellinghuisen, Professor of Chemistry, Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt University

Joel Tellinghuisen has degrees from Cornell University (A.B.) and the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D.) and has been Professor of Chemistry at Vanderbilt University since 1983. His primary research areas have been chemical physics and physical chemistry, with an emphasis on optical spectroscopy. His major accomplishments include analysis of rare-gas halide emission spectra of relevance to excimer lasers (e.g., XeCl, XeF, ArF). His research has emphasized computational methods, especially modern least-squares data analysis techniques. Recently he has applied these methods increasingly to problems of interest in the biological sciences, like HPLC calibration, isothermal titration calorimetry, and real-time qPCR methods.
