Mark Sorrells's Biography



Mark Sorrells, Professor, Cornell University

Mark E. Sorrells is Professor and Chair of the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Cornell University. He received his PhD in Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1978. After a short post-doc he joined the faculty at Cornell University in the Department of Plant Breeding & Biometry. Sorrells specializes in breeding methodologies and strategies and currently is focused on evaluating genomic selection strategies for wheat improvement. He also develops small grains varieties for the Northeastern region of the U.S. and has released or co-released one barley, four oat, and 13 wheat, varieties. Sorrells has published over 260 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and supervised as major advisor 36 Ph.D. and 15 M.S. graduate students.
