Mark Shannon, Senior Staff Scientist, Applied Biosystems

Mark Shannon is a Senior Staff Scientist in the Genetic, Medical, and Applied Sciences Division at Life Technologies. Prior to joining Life Technologies, Dr. Shannon was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Oak Ridge and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, where he studied mammalian comparative genomics. He received a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The proximity ligation assay (PLATM) extends the utility of quantitative PCR to the analysis of proteins.  With its simple workflow and exquisite sensitivity, PLA enables a broad range of applications including the detection of post-translational modifications, protein-protein interactions, and the quantification of proteins from blood samples, tissues, and single cells.
