Ho Pui Ho's Biography



Ho Pui Ho, Professor, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

H.P. Ho (Aaron) received his BEng and PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Univ. of Nottingham in 1986 and 1990 respectively. Currently a professor in Dept. of Electronic Engineering, Chinese University of Hong Kong, he has held positions as Assistant Professor in Department of Physics and Materials Science, City University of Hong Kong (1996-2002), Senior Process Engineer in Hewlett-Packard (1994-96), post-doc in University of Nottingham and University of Leeds (1989-94). His research interests cover nano-materials, plasmonics, lab-on-a-disc and biophotonics. He has published over 230 technical articles and 5 US patents.

We report the use of droplet-in-oil strategy in a lab-on-a-disc (LOAD) device platform. While surface tension can be removed completely, actuation force depends entirely on spinning speed and density difference. Droplet manipulation as required by common bioassays will be discussed.
