Bernard Dumas's Biography

Bernard Dumas, Principal Investigator, University Paul Sabatier Toulouse

I obtained My Bachelor degree (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) at the Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France. My PhD work (1986-1990) was performed at the Institute for Plant Molecular Biology (IBMP, CNRS, Strasbourg) on the regulation of the plant secondary metabolism during the immune response. My post-doctoral work (Genetic Lab, Gent, Belgium, 1990-1991) was focused on the identification of key enzymes involved in wood formation in poplar. After this post-doc, I joined the Biotechnology Department, Rhône-Poulenc Agrochimie (Lyon; France, 1991-1994) to develop transgenic plants resistant to fungal pathogens. Since 1996, I am a Research Director at the CNRS at Toulouse (France), working on plant immunity and microbial effectors.

I will present results obtained on the natural variation observed in Arabidopsis accessions to a microbial inducer of plant immunity. This work will give new clues for the characterization of plant genetic determinants involved in response to pathogens.
