Amber Murch's Biography

Amber Murch, Research Scientist, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory

Amber Murch joined the Detection Department at DSTL in 2008 after having studied for a BSc (Hons) Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter. As a new graduate, Amber designed and evaluated real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays for the identification of biological warfare agents. Between 2010 and 2012 Amber technically lead a next-generation sequencing (NGS) project at DSTL, evaluating NGS platforms and sample preparation methods for clinical sample matrices, contributing to a sequencing diagnostic capability for the UK MoD. Amber is currently undertaking a molecular microbiology PhD within DSTL’s Biomedical Sciences Department, in collaboration with the University of Southampton, researching the Stringent Response of intracellular pathogens.
