Samir EL-Andaloussi's Biography

Samir EL-Andaloussi, Assistant Professor, Karolinska Institute

Samir EL Andaloussi defended his PhD in 2008 at the Department of Neurochemistry, Stockholm University, Sweden, working on the development of peptide-based vectors for delivery of gene therapy agents. He continued working as a research fellow in the lab of Prof Langel for two years. In 2010, Samir moved to the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the lab of Prof Edvard Smith at Karolinska Institutet for postdoctoral studies, continuing the work on developing peptide-based vectors for delivery of RNA-based therapeutics. During 2011 and 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Prof Matthew Wood´s lab at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, University of Oxford. During that postdoctoral stint Samir was introduced to the subject of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their application for delivery of biotherapeutics. Since 2013 Samir is sharing his commitment between Karolinska Institutet as an Assistant professor and at University of Oxford as a departmental research fellow. His lab currently consist of 5 PhD students and 10 post docs working primarily on the development of engineered exosomes for delivery of biotherapeutics to treat genetic diseases, with focus on inflammation.
