Cedric Gaggioli's Biography

Cedric Gaggioli, Baby Team Leader, Université Nice Sophia Antipolis

Cedric Gaggioli completed his undergraduate studies at the Nice Sophia-Antipolis science university. In 2005 he graduated from the Nice science university, where he mainly focused on the role of the matrix proteins during melanomagenesis in Robert Ballotti’s lab. Cedric moved to London where he joined Erik Sahai’s lab, an expert in questions regarding cancer cell spreading and colonization of distant organs. Cedric showed that cancer cells can highjack carcinoma associated fibroblasts for local invasion through extracellular matrix remodeling and tracks formation. This original work led cedric to develop a 3D cell based assay to screen for compounds that could impair matrix remodeling. Since 2008, Cedric is back to France, in Nice. He is now established as an independent researcher, interested in the influence of the tumor microenvironment during carcinogenesis and more particularly in CAF-dependent signaling pathways that govern a pro-invasive matrix remodeling. Since 2012, Cedric is a young team leader focusing on the role of carcinoma-associated fibroblast in invasive cancer.

Carcinoma Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) can lead collective carcinoma cells invasion by extracellular matrix remodeling and tracks formation through actomyosin-dependent force generation. Using chemical compounds screening assay based on 3D matrix remodeling by CAFs, we identified Janus Kinase (JAK) signaling pathway as a regulator of actomyosin contractility and matrix remodeling by stroma cells.
