Andrew Brown's Biography



Andrew Brown, Senior Consultant Engineer, Biopharm Services Ltd

Andrew Brown is Head of Consultancy at Biopharm Services, UK. He has worked on a wide range of client projects to assess the economic impact upon bioprocesses of new technologies, process definitions and manufacturing strategies. He has also worked on a collaborative project with Avecia (now Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnolgies) and MedImmune to develop process knowledge management tools that assist process development and technology transfer activities. He has been awarded an Engineering Doctorate in Biochemical Engineering from UCL, where he worked upon the development of Ultra Scale-down methods for the rapid prediction of the performance of large-scale membrane filtration operations, work that lead to the publication of several peer reviewed research papers.

Single-use technologies have long been utilised within bioprocesses from the early days of single use bags to the current state of the art single-use bioreactors. This presentation will consider the economic advantages offered by single-use technology. Future opportunities to reduce cost further will also be highlighted.
