Daniel Zicha's Biography



Daniel Zicha, Head of Light Microscopy, Cancer Research UK

Daniel Zicha received MSc from Czech University of Technology, Prague. He then pursued PhD project “Artificial intelligence methods in tumour cell biology” at Institute of Molecular Genetics, Czech Academy of Sciences. His subsequent postdoctoral research focussing on chemotaxis and interference microscopy, was held at MRC Muscle and Cell Motility Unit, King's College, London. Daniel Zicha is head of Light Microscopy at Cancer Research UK London Research Institute since 1998. He has been involved in development of novel light microscopy techniques (e.g. FLAP) and has experience with metastasis research. Daniel Zicha has been Journal of Microscopy editorial board member since 2007.

Quantitative light microscopy of cells in tissue culture provides an objective description of their morphology and behaviour at increasing levels of detail. Application of this principle to cancer cells allows correlation of in vitro measurements with malignancy in vivo.
