Pravin D Potdar, Head, Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre

Dr. Potdar is presently heading Department of Molecular Medicine & Biology for last 11 years & has more than 30 years of research experience in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology of cancer and other genetic disorders. Dr. Potdar has worked as a Senior Scientist for 20 years at Cancer Research Institute (Present ACTRECT), Tata Memorial centre, Mumbai and done extensive research on establishing Biomarkers for early detection of lung and other cancers. He is a fellow of National Institute of Health (NIH), USA and also worked as a faculty at M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, USA for 2 and half years. Dr. Potdar has cloned 3 Novel genes such as GGT-REL, KPL1 & KLP2 during his fellowship at NIH, USA. He is a recipient of prestigious National Cancer Institute, NIH, USA award and a Birla Smarak Kosh, Mumbai award for his contribution in cancer research. Dr. Potdar has visited several universities in USA including Dr. James Watson’s (Noble Laureate) laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. At Jaslok, he has established a Molecular Diagnostics and Stem Cell Research laboratory and carrying out various Research Programs in the field of Cancer Research and Stem Cell Research. His laboratory is considered as a one of the reference laboratory for R&D in Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research. He has guided more than 100 research students for dissertations of their M.Sc., M.Tech, M. Pharm and DNB degrees from various universities from India & abroad and many of them are doing their further studies in USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia etc. Dr. Potdar’s papers on cancer research & stem cell research are published all over the World Medical Journals. He has successfully sequenced BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes and Wilson Diseases gene in his laboratory and discovered specific novel mutations in Indian population. At Jaslok Hospital, he has established complete molecular diagnostic laboratory for cancer genes, Neurology, genetic disorders and infectious diseases. Dr. Potdar has been associated with many organizations and hold positions in their committees. He has honored with position of a Secretary for Scientific Advisory and Ethics Committee of Jaslok hospital for 5 years. Dr. Potdar is presently “Vice President” of “Molecular Pathology Association of India (MPAI). He has more than 60 publications in National & International journals, appointed as a reviewer for many national and international journals and attended several Conferences, Workshops and Seminars all over India and abroad. His name is also included in Marquis Who's Who in World” Book 2012. Recently he has been included in the organizing committees of Global Cancer Congress 2014 held in Hyderabad and Biomedical & Tissue Engineering (BME2015) conference held at Philadelphia, USA by OMICS group, USA. His profile & publications are daily been viewed by several scientists all over the World on Research gate. Dr. Potdar is appointed as a reviewer for Welcome Trust UK DBT Indian Alliance Fellowship program for clinicians since year 2014. He is on Editorial board of many cancer and cancer biomarkers related international journals.
