Alexander Thiemann's Biography

Alexander Thiemann, Post-doc, University of Hamburg

Dr. Alexander Thiemann studied at the University of Hamburg (Gemany) and at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). He received his diploma in 2007 at the University of Hamburg in the working group of Prof. Dr. Mühlbach focusing on the characterization of the putative viral gene silencing suppressor p4 of the European mountain ash ringspot-associated virus (EMARaV). From 2008 to 2011 he accomplished his PhD study in the working group of Dr. Stefan Scholten in the department of developmental biology and biotechnology at the University of Hamburg on the characterization of heterosis and its improved prediction for applied breeding purposes. Currently Dr. Thiemann carries forward his research as a Postdoctorial Associate in the lab of Dr. Stefan Scholten on the role of additive expression and epigenetic gene regulation in the formation of heterosis and its prediction in extensive maize breeding populations in co-operation with Prof. Dr. Frisch (University of Giessen) and Prof. Dr. Melchinger (University of Hohenheim).
