Nuno Reis's Biography

Nuno Reis, Lecturer, Loughborough University

Nuno M Reis has a first degree in Biological Engineering from University of Minho, Portugal and in 2006 received his PhD in Biological and Chemical Engineering, which involved biotechnological applications and development of a new scaled-down mixing technology, called oscillatory flow mixing, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, UK. From 2007 to 2011 he did postdoctoral research work at the University of Cambridge, UK with the period 2008-2010 sponsored by the European Commission through a Marie-Curie Intra-European Fellowship. In that period, he pioneered the application of a melt-extruded microengineered material invented in Cambridge, called MicroCapillary Film (MCFs) to a number of analytical and preparative bioapplications, which included the invention of extruded multiplex diagnostics using a FEP-Teflon MCF in collaboration with immunologist Dr Alexander Edwards (now at Reading School of Pharmacy). In 2011 he was appointed Lecturer in Bioprocess Engineering at Loughborough University, UK, with his focus on developing inexpensive-multiplex microprocess engineering tools and new process intensification concepts addressing key gaps in biopharmaceuticals and molecular diagnostics markets. Dr Reis has authored or co-authored several publications in the areas of oscillatory flow mixing and micro(bio)process engineering, and in 2012 co-founded Capillary Film Technology Ltd, a subsidiary of Lamina Dielectrics Ltd using the IP he helped developing whilst at the University of Cambridge.
