Bertrand Rochat's Biography

Bertrand Rochat, Head Quantitative Mass Spectrometry Facility , Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois

Bertrand Rochat obtained his PhD at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. He continued his academic career with various post-doc periods in France, in the United States and in Scotland. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as lab head in the department of Pre-Clinical Safety at Novartis Pharma in Switzerland. Since 2003, he is in charge of the Mass Spectrometry Facility at the University Hospital of Lausanne in Switzerland. He helps medical doctors and biologists in their research projects and, in parallel, develops his own research. His skills and knowledge are in the following area:
• Therapeutic drug monitoring, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics
• Quantitative determination of native peptides by LC-MS in biological matrices.
• Quan/Qual LC-MS analysis using high-resolution mass-spectrometry
• Implementation of a targeted metabolomics analysis in patient’s plasma.
He published original articles, review and editorial in these topics.

Using high-resolution (HR) full-scan acquisition, actual HR-MS can perform simultaneously qualitative and quantitative analyses that are compatible with routine environment. Actual HR-MS shows comparable selectivity, sensitivity, level accuracy and analytical throughput than triple-quadrupole-MS. Research/routine and quantitative/qualitative analyses using LC-HR-MS will be presented for drug and peptide determinations in patients’ plasma.
