Iola Duarte,
Principal Investigator,
University of Aveiro
Iola Duarte is a researcher at the Centre for Research in Ceramics & Composite Materials (CICECO), University of Aveiro (UA), Portugal, since December 2007. After obtaining her PhD from UA in 2003, in the area of food characterization by spectroscopic techniques, she held a post-doctoral fellowship in the field of health metabolomics, at UA and Imperial College London. She currently integrates the NMR metabolomics team at UA and her main scientific interests comprise (i) the development of metabolomics and isotopomer-assisted NMR profiling strategies for assessing the biological effects and toxicity mechanisms of selected nanomaterials, (ii) the modulation of cell metabolism by anti-cancer drugs and nanomedicines, (iii) metabolic profiling of diseases, with emphasis on lung cancer. In 2007, Iola was awarded the Prize L’Oréal PT for Women in Science and, in 2010, she was the recipient of the Portuguese League Against Cancer grant.
