Martin Wagner's Biography



Martin Wagner, Professor, University of Veterinary Medicine

Prof. Martin Wagner, born in 1962 in Austria, is DVM and D.V.Sc. from the Institute of Animal Breeding. He has worked as research associate at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Immuno- and Zytogenetics Research, Vienna, and since 1993 he has been head of the Molecular Working Group at IMMF. In 2008 he became full professor for Molecular Food Microbiology at the VUW Vienna, likewise he became Head of the Institute for Milk Hygiene, Milk Technology and Food Science. His current research includes an EU-funded project on traceablity of pathogens in food chains (IP BIOTRACER), novel antibiotic drugs (funded by the WWTF) and novel sample preparation and cell manipulation technologies (within the frame of the CD-MOFA).

Sequencing has completely changed the insight in the composition of microbial communities in the recent years. This presentation shows the importance of increasing our understanding how metabolically active parts of microbial communities are transferred from raw stuffs or environments to food under processing.
