Dr. Muthuvel Jayachandran was born in Tamilnadu, India. Upon obtaining a PhD (1998) in Biochemistry from University of Madras, India, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science to do cardiovascular research at Nagoya University School of Medicine, Japan. In 2000, he moved to United States to continue his research in cardiovascular pathophysiology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. Dr. Jayachandran has received many awards for his research from various professional organizations including Young Scientist Award from Association of Scientists of Indian Origin Inc., Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association, a Novel Methodology Grant Award from Mayo Clinic. He is also Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator of several grants funded by the American Heart Association and National Institute of Health. Dr. Jayachandran has published more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles, and written several reviews, book chapters and editorials. Currently, Dr. Jayachandran is Associate Professor, Department of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. He is a reviewer of more than 20 scientific journals and an Editorial Board member of several scientific journals. His major current research interests are: Extracellular vesicles (microvesicles & exosomes) in health and disease.
