Amit Asthana's Biography



Amit Asthana, Principal Scientist, Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology

Currently, Dr. Amit Asthana is working as Principal Scientist at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CSIR-CCMB), Hyderabad, India. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Barkatullah University, India, while working at Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI). Dr. Asthana has more than 17 years of post-doctoral experience in the field of biomaterials, micro/nanotechnology, microfluidics device designing, fabrication and characterization, hot embossing, cleanroom operations and paper-microfluidic. He has worked at Institutes and Universities of International fame such as the University of Amsterdam, The Netherland, Institute Curie, France, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, Chungnam National University, South Korea and University of Queensland, Australia. Dr. Asthana is a Fellow of Telangana Acadamy of Science. He is the recipient of many fellowships including S.R.F. (C.S.I.R., India), Curie Fellowship (France), & Brainpool Fellowship (Korea) and Ramalingaswami Return Fellowship (India). Dr. Asthana has a number of publications in journals of international repute and international conferences. His research interests include the Biomaterials, drug delivery, application of micro/nanofabrication, micro/nanofluidics, Digital microfluidics a wide range of microfluidic tools for biological studies including diagnostic using paper microfluidics apart from non-conventional ways of fabricating microfluidic devices. Recently, Dr. Asthana received prestigious “Fast track Translational” research project of CSIR to develop affordable paper-based pregnancy kits for livestock, which will be introduced in the market by the end of 2018. Dr. Asthana has been instrumental in establishing PAHL BioNanoTherapeutics Pvt. Limited, a startup established with the funding from BIRAC, under Bio-Initiative Grant (BIG) at IKP Park, Hyderabad. Dr. Asthana had being associated other biomedical devices startups such as Axio Biosolutions Pvt. Limited, Gujarat from its inception and with Theranosis Life Sciences Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.
