Adam Osborne's Biography



Adam Osborne, Researcher, Brandeis University

Adam graduated from the College of Wooster in 2005 with a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Adam then went on to the graduate program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Brandeis University where he joined the Wangh lab. His thesis work focused on the study of mitochondrial DNA damage and its role in disease. Adam is currently a joint post doc in the Wangh and Hayes labs at Brandeis studying mitochondrial dysfunction in type 2 diabetes.

A LATE-PCR Lights-On/Lights-Off probe assay was developed to look for mutations in the mitochondrial genome.  Exposure of both HepG2 and CCD-1112Sk cells to 3'-Azido-3'-deoxythymidine (AZT) caused a significant increase in mutations in regions of the HV2 and ND1 genes.
