SELECTBIO Conferences Targeting Protein-Protein Interactions

Arnout Voet's Biography

Arnout Voet, Researcher, RIKEN

Arnout RD Voet got his bachelor of Chemistry from the KULAK University, Belgium in 2002. In 2004, he got his master’s degree Biochemistry from the KULeuven University (Belgium) magna cum laude, after which he continued as a PhD student researching computational methods for the design of small molecule Protein-Protein interactions inhibitors, at the laboratory for biomolecular modelling (dept. chemistry) and the laboratory for virology and gene therapy (dept. molecular medicine) under the supervision of prof. De Maeyer and prof. Debyser. His PHD fellowship was funded by the prestigious IWT fellowship after oral examination by a specialized jury. He got his doctoral degree in March 2010 and continued for one more year as a postdoctoral researcher. By the end of 2011, he left Belgium and continued his career at the RIKEN institute for chemical and physical research in Japan. His current research interest is the further design of computational methods for the discovery of small molecule protein-protein interaction inhibitors and the application on the discovery of them for novel protein-protein interaction targets. Since 2012, he is funded by a JSPS (Japanese society for the promotion of science) postdoctoral grant.

First, we will focus on the computational methodology for the discovery of Small Molecule Protien-Protien Interaction Inhibitors (SMPPIIs). Then we focus on 2 different cases in which we were successful for the discovery of first in class SMPPII for new PPI targets.
