Z Fan, Professor, University of Florida

Dr. Z. Hugh Fan is a UF Research Foundation professor in the Departments of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Chemistry at the University of Florida (UF). Prior to this position, he was a Principal Scientist at ACLARA BioSciences Inc. and a Member of the Technical Staff at Sarnoff Corp. Dr. Fan is a recipient of Fraunhofer-Bessel Award from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany), E.T.S. Walton Award from Science Foundation Ireland, and Career Award from National Institute of Health (US).

Two-dimensional protein electrophoresis has been implemented in plastic microfluidic devices. An array of microvalves was integrated for introducing different separation media. The total separation time was much shorter than the conventional approach.
