Farhan Ahmad's Biography



Farhan Ahmad, Associate Professor, Jamia Hamdard University

Dr Farhan Jalees Ahmad, did his post graduation and Doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences from Department of pharmaceutics, Hamdard University.
Dr Ahmad has a rich experience in industrial research through his fruitful association with Ranbaxy Research Laboratories, for six long years. His domain of research therein included development, scale-up, technology transfer and launching of pharmaceutical products both for national and international markets.
He joined Hamdard University as a lecturer in the year 1998 and was very soon selected as an associate professor. His current interest lies in Nanotechnology products for brain delivery, Nanoherbal formulations, controlled release formulations,targeted drug delivery specifically for brain and colon. Besides he is also working on amalgamation of herbal medicinal plants with modern therapeutics in order to deliver a scientifically acceptable therapy for various diseases. He has been granted projects to a tune of rupees 3.5 crores from agencies like DBT, CCRUM, AYUSH, UGC, DST and FIP etc.

He is working in the area of Nanomedicine for the last ten years and has published a number of research papers on nanomedicine in peer reviewed journals. He has applied for four Indian patent on Nano DPI formulations and none herbal formulations, two of his nanoproduct are approved by Drug Controller of India for Phase-II clinical Studies. He has organized an Indo-US Symposium of cancer Nanotechnology in Feb 2009.

He has earned many accolades including young scientist Fast Track from DST, scientist of the year-2005 from NESA, UGC Research Award 2011, Bharat Jyoti award 2011 and also prizes in scientific poster session in National pharmacy Symposium. He has a US patent and two Indian patents to his name and applied for eight more with Indian patent office, He has published more than 200 research and review papers and attended many national and international conferences for presentation of research papers. He has guided around 25 M. Pharm students and about 15 PhD scholars. Besides this, he is offering consultancy to small pharmaceutical setups, for developing and scale-up and trouble shoot specific problems.
He has been an expert, chairman, co-chairman, invited speaker, co-ordinator and examiner of various seminars, workshops in and outside the university.
He is also involved in nationally conceived projects under the aegis of institutes like INMAS, GB Pant Hospital, RBTB hospital and IIT, Delhi. He played a pivotal role in developing and maintaining the state of the art Nanomedicine lab and Central Instrumentation Facility, at Faculty of Pharmacy. He is an active member of bodies like IPA, APTI, NESA, MAAS, IPGA, IHPA, CRS, ICA and also hold their life memberships.
He is an active member of Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Delhi branch and served in the capacity of member executive committee, honorary secretary and now he is serving his second term as President IPA (Delhi Branch).
